So procrastination won this battle

I was not able to read my weekly reading til now for one reason or another. But better late than never right!?

When I was reading Rhythm Science, something that Miller said caught my attention. ”The times change and the music evolves” (Miller 28). Yes, music is evolving, even within its own genre. Rap being one of them. Rap started off as the struggles in the rapper’s life and how it was in “the hood”. But now it seems as if most of rap is just about money, cars, chains and hoes. The term “bling-bling” wasn’t even around until Lil’ Wayne created it. Even though music is changing as time passes by, it seems as if a lot of the music on the radio are remixes of old songs. Every time, my mom hears a song that is a remix of an old song, she gets mad and always says the same thing, “Artists these days need to stop stealing all the old GOOD music.” Or like Miller says, “But at the end of the day, it’s all about the changing same, the core of repetition at modern thought” (Miller 28).

“We’re never going to remember anything exactly the way it happened. Memories become even more fragmented and subjective” (Miller 29). I myself can strongly agree with what Miller says. The more I tell a story the more I start to forget. I tend to exaggerate a part that I do remember to keep the story just as interesting.

“Making a mix CD is a paradox; it’s personal and impersonal…What sounds would you choose if they were all free…the order of the tracks is a mode of figuring out which configuration would draw people into minset” (Miller 29). I’m always thinking too much about what music to play when others are in my car. I hate to put it on shuffle because A. I’m going through a whole bunch of songs til I find a song I know they like or B. I’m nervous to see what song pops on next and if they’d judge me on what music I listen to. Everyone has their guilty pleasures once it comes to music.

“For the most part, creativity rests in how you recontextualize the previous expression of others, a place where there is no such thing as ‘an immaculate perception’” (Miller 33). This applies to this whole semester long project. We have to take what we read in the three books that are assigned to us, and put our two sense into it. Although we are not summarizing what we read, we take the same ideas and comment on them or bring up something that reminds you of the context in the three books. This is exactly what Loan means by being creative with the project. He is not looking for one right answer.

The beginning of my semester long journey

Okay, so I just finished making my blog somewhat worthy of being showed to the class. Now actually writing in it, that’s the problem for me. Me being my procrastinating self I have not done this week’s reading. I just wanted to post my first blog so that my blog doesn’t look so empty. Well, now I’m off to go read…..hopefully. Wish me luck!
